Splitvoy started after a group trip across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos with 11 people — a mix of adults and kids, shared activities, partial participation, and expenses across multiple currencies like AED, USD, and local currencies.

What should have been simple turned into chaos. Spreadsheets didn't capture different weightages, WhatsApp threads were impossible to track, and existing tools either felt too rigid or required everyone to sign up. Figuring out who owed what became harder than the trip itself.

So we built the tool we wished existed — one simple link, zero sign-ups, real-time sync, and smart splits that actually reflect real-life situations.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to create an account to use Splitvoy?+
No account needed at all. Open Splitvoy, create your trip, and you get a unique shareable URL. Send that link to your group — everyone can view and add expenses without signing up. Your trip data is stored securely in the cloud, tied to that URL.
How does real-time sync work?+
Splitvoy uses Google Firebase Firestore to sync data in real time. Any change made by any member — adding an expense, marking a settlement, updating member info — is pushed to all connected devices within milliseconds. No refresh needed.
How do weighted splits work for families?+
Each member has a "share weight" starting at 1x (themselves). You can add adult dependants (each counts as 1x more) and children (each counts as 0.5x). So if Ahmed has 1 adult dependant and 2 children, his share weight is 1 + 1 + (2×0.5) = 3x. You can also override dependants per individual expense if needed.
Can I split a bill unevenly instead of equally?+
Yes. Equal split is still the one-tap default, but for a specific expense you can switch to Exact Amount (type what each person actually owes) or Percentage. Splitvoy checks the numbers add up to the full bill before letting you save, so a split can't accidentally go missing money.
What currencies does Splitvoy support?+
Splitvoy supports 130+ world currencies. You can log each expense in any currency — AED, USD, EUR, JPY, IDR, GBP, and many more. Live exchange rates are fetched automatically so all balances are correctly converted to your chosen base currency.
What's the difference between Admin and Member access?+
The Admin (protected by a 4-digit PIN) can: edit and delete expenses, add/remove/rename members, change settings and currency, mark settlements as paid, set trip status (Active / Closing / Closed), and send reminders. Regular Members can: add new expenses, view all expenses, analytics, and balances. This ensures only the trip organiser can make structural changes.
How does the settlement plan work?+
Splitvoy calculates the most efficient set of transfers — the minimum number of payments needed so everyone is settled. For example, in a 6-person group that might mean only 4 transfers instead of 15+. Once someone pays, the admin clicks "Mark Settled" and balances update in real time for the whole group.
Can I export the data after the trip?+
Yes! The Settle Up tab has an Export PDF button (generates a formatted report with expenses, balances, and settlements) and an Export Excel button (creates a proper .xlsx file with four sheets: Expenses, Members & Balances, Settlement Plan, and Summary). Pro users get clean exports with no branding footer.
How does the "Send All Reminders" feature work?+
In Settings → Reminders, the admin can save each member's phone number or email address. On the Settle Up tab, clicking "📣 Send All Now" sends a personalised reminder to every person who owes money — via WhatsApp (if a phone is saved) or email — all in one click. You can also click "🔔 Reminders" to review and send individually.
Can Splitvoy help coordinate where and when to meet up?+
Yes — the Itinerary tab is a shared, synced day-plan for the trip. Any member can add a stop with a title, date, time, and notes (e.g. "9:00 AM — Meet at hotel lobby, bring your passport"), and everyone with the trip link sees the same list automatically, no separate sharing step. There's a one-tap "Share Plan" button that sends the day's stops straight to WhatsApp, and an optional daily reminder that nudges you with that day's plan when you open the app.
Does receipt scanning work for receipts that aren't in English?+
Yes. Splitvoy automatically detects the script/language on the receipt before scanning it, so it works whether the receipt is in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Cyrillic, or several other scripts — you never have to pick a language yourself.
Can I book the same expense every day without re-entering it?+
Yes — when adding an expense, open "More options" and set Repeat to Daily or Weekly with how many times it happens (say, a daily breakfast for 7 days). Splitvoy logs every occurrence for you in one go, each as its own independent expense you can still edit or delete individually afterwards.
Can we discuss or ask about a specific expense?+
Yes — every expense has its own lightweight comment thread. Tap the 💬 count on any transaction to ask "what was this for?" or add context, right there with the cost instead of losing it in a separate group chat.
Is my trip data safe and private?+
Your trip is accessible only to people who have the unique URL. Splitvoy uses a random alphanumeric trip ID in the URL hash — it cannot be guessed. Data is stored in Firebase Firestore. The admin PIN adds an extra layer of protection against unauthorised edits. We don't store any personal identifying information beyond what you enter. Questions? Reach us at [email protected]
